Shemya (It’s not the end of the world, but you can see it from there) is an Air Force Station with a 10,005’ runway. In 1991-1992, I spent about a third of my time there flying the RC-135S/X. This sign is on the east end of the island, which is about 350 miles from Adak Naval Air Station, the nearest civilization.
